WHAT IS MEMORIAL DAY?
Memorial Day is an American holiday which falls on the last Monday of May. Today we honor and remember those who have died while serving
our country in the U.S Military. Today looks different for everyone. Many families spend Memorial Day visiting a memorial or cemetary.
HISTORY OF MEMORIAL DAY
Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration day. Soldiers decorated fallen soldiers' graves with wreaths, flowers, especially red poppies because they were the flowers that grew on the field where WWl ended, and American flags. As the years went by Decoration Day was changed to Memorial Day. The day originated a few years after the Civil
War. Even though the original birthplace of Memorial Day is unknown, the Federal Government declared Waterloo, New York as the official birthplace of Memorial Day.
