Lucifer is an American urban fantasy superhero television series developed by Tom Kapinos that premiered on Fox on January 25, 2016. It is based on the DC Comics character created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Mike Dringenberg taken from the comic book series The Sandman, who later became the protagonist of a spin-off comic book series, both published by DC Comics' Vertigo imprint. The series is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Television, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television.
The series focuses on Lucifer Morningstar, a handsome and powerful angel who was cast out of Heaven for his rebellion. As the Devil, Lucifer tired of the millennia he's spent being the Lord of Hell, punishing people. Becoming increasingly bored and unhappy with his life in Hell, he abdicates his throne in defiance of his father (God) and abandons his kingdom for Los Angeles, where he runs his own nightclub called Lux. When he finds himself involved in a murder investigation, he meets the intriguing Detective Chloe Decker. After helping the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) solve the case by using his power to manipulate humans into revealing their deepest desires, Lucifer accepts a subsequent invitation to work with Chloe as a consultant to the department, and throughout the series, they encounter all sorts of supernatural beings while solving crimes together and developing their relationship.
Lucifer Morningstar, the former lord of Hell, has decided to vacation in L.A. along with his right hand demon Mazikeen. Using his night club Lux, Lucifer parties and indulges in every pleasure imaginable. However, the murder of an old acquaintance puts Lucifer on the path of vengeance and in the path of detective Chloe Decker. Lucifer decides to use the LAPD as an outlet to continue to punish sinners. At the same time, Lucifer's brother, the angel Amenadiel, is trying to get Lucifer to go back to ruling Hell.
Thanks to Amenadiel's blunder, Hell was left unguarded for a short time. This allowed Lucifer's mother, the Goddess of creation, to escape Hell and arrive on Earth. Lucifer is left trying to find a loophole in his deal with God, so he can punish his mother. Maze begins undergoing changes, trying to find out where she fits in on Earth.
Lucifer finds his wings have returned, but they come at the loss of another aspect of his identity. No sooner does this happen, Lucifer finds out that a mysterious crime boss known as The Sinnerman has moved to L.A. and is trying to take over the market on granting favors. At the same time, a new lieutenant transfers to the precinct and a familiar face makes a surprise return.
As Chloe now knows the truth about Lucifer, she starts questioning if the man she knows is all an act by the incarnate of evil or if Lucifer truly is a good man. In the meantime, the relationship between Amenadiel, Maze and Linda is about to change forever. Still reeling from Charlotte's death, Dan sinks into a dark depression. Adding onto the insanity is the reappearance of Lucifer's old flame Eve.
Part 1: Chloe deals with the absence of Lucifer in her life, only for his twin brother Michael to arrive and turn the lives of everyone close to Lucifer upside down bad enough to force Lucifer to leave Hell. At the same time, Ella has something good happen in her life and Maze begins having an existential crisis.
Part 2: God is planning to pass his divine powers onto one of his children so that they can run the Universe. To this end, Michael has gained support from the rest of the Angels, while Lucifer sees this as a chance to correct what he believes to be wrong with the world. At the same time, Chloe and Linda get a chance to tell God just how poor a parent he's been to Lucifer.
