The Creation of Haitian Vodou

During Slavery, there were 7,000+ slaves that fled to the east and west mountains of the country. It's in those mountains that they met up with the Tainos and Arawaks that fled when Christopher Columbus came to the country.
When they tried to rebuild their respective societies, they realized that they couldn't because their cultures were just too different because a lot of the slaves came from different parts of Africa. So they combined Tainos, Arawaks and African Cultures. As a result we have AYISYEN VODOU, which they later spread during the revolution.
That's why a lot of our mysteres (loas) are Indigenous (Tainos and Arawaks).
