The person I'm going to talk about is my father, my father was a professional baseball player, (born September 18, 1978 in San Pedro de Macorís) my father was not such a recognized player in the major leagues but he did have some Good batting percentages, although I did not last many years established in what Major League Baseball is but above all I thank my father for choosing this sport as false and as fun as baseball, thanks to him I keep playing this sport which is my life and to reach where I have never reached to continue putting our name up high.

Known primarily for his speed, Ruan was signed as an amateur by the Montreal Expos on November 15, 1996. He hit .348 with 33 stolen bases for the Expos team in the Dominican Summer League in 1997, before being led. to the United States and assigned to the Expos' rookie baseball team in 1998. He battled the most experienced American pitchers, hitting just .239 for the Gulf Coast Expos that season, although he stole 13 bases.

With the Cape Fear Crocs in 1999 and 2000, he improved his average (.224, .287) each year and continued to steal bases at an astonishing rate, stealing 64 bases in 2000. In 2001, he started the High-A team. Jupiter Hammerheads hit .283 with 25 steals before being promoted to Double-A with the Harrisburg Senators.

On March 23, 2002, he was traded by the Expos to the Los Angeles Dodgers along with Dominican pitcher Guillermo Mota for Jorge Núñez and Matt Herges. He began the 2002 season with the Dodgers' Double-A team, Jacksonville Suns, where he batted .253 with 23 steals and ended the season with the Triple-A Las Vegas 51s team where he hit .327 with 12 stolen bases in 40 games. This earned him a draft call to the Major League Baseball roster in September. He made his major league debut on September 1 as a pinch runner. He got his first major league hit the next day against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was used primarily as a pinch runner during his month-long stay in the majors.
