16 year old Ma'Khia Bryant murdered by police in Columbus Ohio.
Black Lives Matter.
She Called for Help.

As we collectively shared our gratitude for today's verdict, Derek Chauvin being held accountable for his actions due to the tragic murder of George Floyd, we lose another black person. Ma'Khia Bryant, a black teenager, was shot and killed by the police in Columbus, Ohio. She was a child who had her whole life ahead of her. She called for help.

The family of Ma'Khia Bryant shared that "she called the police for help because girls were fighting outside her house."She was just a kid, not "a young woman". But now, we say her name along with too many others. What's even more terrifying about Ma'Khia Bryant is that I too am a black teenage girl. Growing up, our parents have always taught us to handle situations by calling the police for help, just like Ma'Khia did. Instead of helping her, they kill her. Young women are told constantly, to keep weapons such as a small pocket knife to defend themselves in a sick world like this. When Ma'Khia Bryant actually had one to avoid being beaten up, police shoot her instantly, with no hesitation.

How are we supposed to feel safe in our communities when calling out for help gets killed? The same day we celebrate a verdict for another loss that should've never happened, a black child is murdered. It's never going to stop. We as a country, didn't even make it halfway through a day. Justice would be dismantling the system that killed George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Duante Wright, Sandra Bland, Eric Garner, and so many others. Say her name.
