Should the government cover workers income during the COVID19 crisis?

According to the article “the new york times' ' it states that as unemployment soars, lawmakers push to cover worker’s wage. “Progressive and conservative lawmakers are increasingly pushing for the government to guarantee worker’s incomes, signaling how profoundly the economic debate has shifted during the pandemic.'' Due to this pandemic many people have lost their jobs and lawmakers are doing what they can to guarantee worker’s income. One of the house's most progressive lawmakers and one of the senate's most conservative, staring down a pandemic caused unemployment rate at its highest level, it came to the realization that it's time for the federal government to pay all those workers ' salaries that have been left without a job since the pandemic started. “We have a situation where people and families in every part of the country are facing this unprecedented crisis, and they are looking for relief. Said Ms.Jayapal, a representative Democrat of Washington and a leader of the congressional progressive caucus. “We have a situation where people and families in every part of the country are facing this unprecedented crisis, and they are looking for relief,” Ms. Jayapal said in an interview. Furthermore , By March when Congress accepted the last big coronavirus relief package, Republicans and Democrats had developed the idea of direct payments, which included $1,200 direct checks that President Trump claimed were emblazoned with his signature. Which I think was a smart idea because it could benefit other people who don't have jobs so they could buy food and personal needs. In my opinion I think the government should cover workers' income during the COVID-19. The reason I believe this is because, as I explained before, support from the government could benefit them due to the fact that many people are almost due to pay rent, have no money to buy food when the food is over or no money to buy personal necessities. There are plenty of people unemployed during this phase of a pandemic. some are just afraid of continuing work because of this virus and instead they stay home. There are now 2.4 million people who applied for unemployment insurance last week, taking jobless claims during the pandemic to over 38 million.
