The Real Madrid C.F. (Club de Fútbol)
Sports

Brought over by English college graduates, football quickly became popular in Spain. Originally named the Madrid Football Club, King Alfonso XIII granted the use of "Real" ("Royal") for the club name in 1920.

The club temporarily had to revert back to its first name (as well as change the name of the national championship) during the Second Spanish Republic.
