Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on this day in 1756 in Salzburg, Austria.

It was evident from a very early age that Mozart had a prodigious musical aptitude. He composed pieces at five years old, and began traveling extensively with his family in order to perform.

Though he was employed at the Salzburg court, Mozart was growing dissatisfied and resigned from his post. He moved to Vienna, where he encountered relative success.

An incredibly prolific writer, Mozart composed over 600 works, which include concertos, chamber music, string quartets, sonatas, fugues, religious music, symphonies, and operas. He composed his most famous works during his final years in Vienna.

Mozart died in 1791, at the age of 35.
